Dynamic Events

Dynamic events are:

  • Acceleration: the car has to speed up for 75 meters on a straight line of a flat surface. This event is divided in two heats that have to be driven by two drivers, each of them has two attempts. The score is given by the difference between the best time and the worst one. But the highest time has not to overtake 5.8 secs and a speed of 46,55 km/h.
  • Skid Pad: this event values the ability to turn of the car. The track looks like a 8 with two circle of 15.25 meters each and in the middle there is the starting and the finish line marked by 16 drivers on the external side and 16 on the internal one. Each car has to run a lap in the right circle to set the driving direction and then runs a second lap which is timing. After the second lap the car has to reach the left circle and runs two more laps and again the second one is timing. This event is divided in two heats that have to be driven by two drivers, each of them has two attempts. The score is given by the ability to the lateral speed up.
  • Autocross: this is a pushing event which consists in running two laps to value the skills of the car. The circuit is tracked in order to get an average speed between 30 and 40 km/h with short straight lines, constant radius curves, hairpin turns, slaloms, chicanes, and variable radius curves. The score is given by the best lap on the two challenges driven by different drivers.
In the Class 1D it is the chance to show the effectiveness of the driverless vehicles in running in an unknown scenario. Two runs per team: each run consists of a single run on the same track of the trackdrive event. Teams are allowed to walk over the track before the autocross, but the circuit layout cannot be recorded in any way.
  • Endurance: this is the final event of the week and it aims to value the whole racing performance of each car. The track is similar to the one used for the Autocross event. Each car has to drive 22 km and during the race teams can not touch the car but it is allowed a driver change (three minutes last) after 13 laps. The starting list is given by the Autocross’ score. The total timing of the Endurance is given by the sum of both drivers timing in addition to the possible penalties. The amount of points available for this event is 300 points.
  • Trackdrive
It is the final event for Class 1 D and it aims to show the performance and the reliability of the driverless vehicles in a long run. Two runs per team: each run consists of ten laps of a closed circuit set up with colour-coded cones (ca. 400 m per lap). The energy efficiency is not measured during the trackdrive.
